چکیده

Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic , inflammatory autoimmune disease with a wide range of clinical and immunological abnormalities. The presence of varied autoantibodies, immune complex deposition and end organ damage are characteristic of the disease. Among the wide range of anti-nuclear antibodies lined up in the diagnostic armamentarium of SLE presently, antinucleosome antibodies are considered superior to the previously main diagnostic marker anti-dsDNA antibodies. Antinucleosome antibodies have a higher sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of SLE and SLE disease activity. They are found in active SLE cases and even in dsDNA negative patients. More ever, they are not found in healthy controls. Thus, antinucleosome antibodies can be utilized as a potential marker for the diagnosis and assessment of SLE disease activity.

Cutaneous Manifestations of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Iranian Children

Systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) is an autoimmune process in which cutaneous lesions occur in majority of patients. This study was conducted to determine the pattern and prevalence of such lesions in SLE in Iranian children infected with SLE. Forty-eight patients, age between 3-16 yrs and male to female ratio of 7/1 were examined for the presence of cutaneous manifestations of SLE. The most co...

Three cases of systemic lupus erythematosus and review of the mechanisms concerning treatment with intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG).

The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder with a broad array of clinical signs. In this research, we aimed to use intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) called intacglobin as monotherapy to manage an SLE in three patients. Laboratory investigations for SLE diagnosis were done, including the detection of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) and SLE confirmation by detecting high tite...

Reactivity in ELISA with DNA-loaded nucleosomes in patients with proliferative lupus nephritis.

Autoantibodies against nucleosomes are considered a hallmark of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We compared in patients with proliferative lupus nephritis the diagnostic usefulness of a dsDNA-loaded nucleosome ELISA (anti-dsDNA-NcX) with ELISAs in which dsDNA or nucleosomes alone were coated. First, we analysed whether DNA loading on nucleosomes led to masking of epitopes by using defined m...

[The role of anti-nucleosome antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus. Results of a study of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and other connective tissue diseases].

OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence and the disease specificity of anti-nucleosome antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus and their association with disease activity and renal involvement. METHODS Anti-nucleosome antibodies were measured by ELISA in the sera of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (47), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (22), mixed connect...

Diagnostic performance and clinical associations of antibodies to the chromatin antigenic system in juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus.

OBJECTIVES To determine the frequency of antibodies to chromatin components in juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (JSLE), and to correlate the presence of these autoantibodies with clinical manifestations and disease activity. METHODS Anti-chromatin (anti-CHR), anti-nucleosome core particle (anti-NCS) and anti-dsDNA antibodies were measured in 175 individuals, including 37 patients with ac...
